Lady traffic constable hit by armored car in EDSA dies

(Eagle News) — The lady traffic constable who was hit by an armored van along northbound lane of EDSA in Quezon City died on Thursday night, June 28.

The victim was identified as Maricel Gammad, 27, resident of Barangay Holy Trinity in Quezon City, and a traffic constable of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

This was confirmed by MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialoso in a message sent to reporters.

Based on the initial investigation, Gammad was managing the traffic near Baliwag Transit terminal past 10 AM before she was hit by the speeding armored van trying to enter the yellow lane of the northbound lane meant for public vehicles.

Due to the impact, the lady constable was thrown away thrice, reason for her to sustain head injuries.

The armored van was driven by 40-year-old Dennis Ellaraiz, who was a security guard from Royal Mandarin security agency.

The suspect is currently detained at the Quezon City Police District Headquarters in Camp Karingal. He will face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
