Lacson wants P75 billion Senate deleted from proposed public works budget to be used for slope protection in Cordillera instead

(Eagle News) — Senator Panfilo Lacson wants part of the P75 billion the Senate deleted in the proposed 2019 budget for public works to be used to reinforce slopes and roads in the Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay area.

Lacson made the statement as he reiterated slope protection work was necessary in the BLISST area, where landslides occur.

“We will not allow bloated estimates similar to that in Nueva Ecija, where the (Department of Public Works and Highways) spent P44,000 per square meter for slope protection when civil engineers calculate the cost to be just P28,000 per square meter,” Lacson said.

He said in the first place, the realignment of the P75 billion “should not be from pork to pork.”

“If my other colleagues will allow…we might give part of the P75 billion to the DPWH for slope protection work (there),” Lacson said.
