Lacson bats for mechanism allowing President to be updated regularly on terrorist threats

(Eagle News) — Senator Panfilo Lacson on Tuesday, Nov. 27, said there was a need to put in place a mechanism that would allow the President to be updated on terrorist threats.

He said the mechanism should be in the executive department.

He cited as an example the United States, where he said the President receives a daily executive brief.

“There is need for a regular update to allow quick analysis, submitted on a regular basis. If not daily, at least weekly or monthly, to assist in the decision-making process,” he said.

With the mechanism in place, he said incidents such as the hostage-taking of 20 tourists from the Dos Palmas resort in Palawan can hopefully be avoided.

Earlier, Lacson filed Senate Bill 1956, which enhances the Human Security Act of 2007.

Lacson, who headed the Philippine National Police from 1999 to 2001, lamented the gaps in the HSA, which he said prevented authorities from implementing it properly.
