MAKATI City, Philippines, July 1 (Eagle News) — Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr., temporarily stepped down on Wednesday (July 1) as Mayor of Makati City after he failed to get a temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Court of Appeals on the six-month preventive suspension order issued by the Office of the Ombudsman.
Binay sought reprieve from the CA but the appellate court’s 10th division deferred taking action on his petition.
Instead, it ordered the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of the Interior and Local Government to file their respective comments on Binay’s petition within 10 days.
Binay, before leaving his office past 9 a.m., Wednesday (July 1), thanked the people at the Makati city hall for their continued support
He also apologized for the tension that erupted there Tuesday when representatives from the DILG served the suspension order.
At least eight people were hurt in the scuffle.
