Jeepney, bus fare hike on Nov. 3 could be delayed after appeal by commuters’ group, says LTFRB chair

(Eagle News) — Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) chair Martin Delgra said the fare increase that is set for implementation on the first week of November could possibly be delayed.

“There’s a possibility,” LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra said when asked about this during in a press briefing in Malacañang.

This was after a commuters’ group filed a petition seeking the suspension of the P1.00 fare hike sought by jeepney and bus operators.

The motion of reconsideration regarding the fare hike was filed by Arlis Acao and the United Filipino Consumers and Commuters through its representative, Rodolfo Javellana.

Delgra said the motion will be tackled on Friday in a board meeting.

“We will agenda the motion for reconsideration this week. We are going to have a board meeting tomorrow so we will be able to discuss certainly and hopefully resolve it within the period,” Delgra said.

“So that motion for reconsideration is now set for agenda this week by the board and we will come out with a decision hopefully within the 15-day period during which the decision would become final,” he added.

Earlier, the LTFRB announced the approval of additional Php 1.00 fare hike on the jeepney fare as well as the P1.00 increase in bus fare, which was supposed to take effect beginning November 3.
