JBC starts search for next Ombudsman, SC associate justice

(Eagle News)–The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) is now accepting applications for the successor of Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, who will retire on July 26.

Edgar Ancheta, JBC Clerk of Court and ex officio secretary, said they were also accepting applications for the post of Supreme Court Associate Justice Presbiterio Velasco Jr., who will retire on August 8.

He said the applications and recommendations for the two positions will be received by the JBC on May 2, not later than 4:30 p.m.

“The date of actual receipt by the JBC of the applications and complete requirements shall be deemed as the date of filing,” a JBC announcement dated March 16 said.

“Qualifications of applicants shall be reckoned from the said deadline,” it added.

Morales was appointed to the post by then-President Benigno Aquino III in July 2011.

Velasco, for his part, held his post   since 2006.

Prior to this, he was SC court administrator for five years.
