The Iglesia Ni Cristo is conducting its own inquiry concerning the events which led to the serving of an arrest warrant against expelled member Lowell Menorca on Wednesday morning.
Inc spokesperson, Bro. Edwil Zabala challenged Menorca to prove his allegations that he was being prevented to attend a scheduled hearing at the court of appeals for his petitions for writs of amparo and habeas corpus.
“We would like to clarify that the INC’s legal team is currently at the Court of Appeals. They are fully prepared for that hearing and have been waiting for Mr. Menorca to appear in court. We were dumbfounded that our name is again being besmirched by. Mr. Menorca. The Iglesia Ni Cristo is conducting its own inquiry concerning the events which led to the serving of an arrest warrant against Mr. Menorca this morning,” Bro. Edwil Zabala said on Wednesday, January 20.
Menorca questioned the timing of the serving of the arrest warrant and accused the INC of harassment. Zabala said that the INC has no hold on its members who would want to file cases against non-INC members.
“Ang nagsilbi ng warrant ay hindi naman kami, ang organisasyon ng INC. Ang nag-serve ng warrant ay ang kawani ng PNP, ang kapulisan. Sila ang may control kung saan at kailan nila maaaring gawin iyan, wala kaming kinalaman doon. Yung alegasyon nya na hinaharang siya dahil ayaw nating matuloy ang pagharap sa hearing, malaking kamalian.”
Menorca faces numerous libel cases from SCAN international chapters from different parts of the country because Menorca accused SCAN as being “the hit squad of the Iglesia Ni Cristo.”
“I believe that they heard or saw the interview of Mr. Menorca who is accusing them of engaging in illegal activities and they were the ones who filed the case. You have to understand that if ever you were in the position of these members of the Church, that would be painful to hear that you’re being accused of engaging in illegal activities, and they were the ones who filed the case.”
Zabala meanwhile, implored the public to be more circumspect with their assessment. He again stressed that the Iglesia Ni Cristo has confidence in the legal process and trusts that they will eventually be vindicated. (Eagle News Service)
