(Eagle News) — Several personalities on Wednesday submitted an impeachment complaint against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.
The group led by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, however, has yet to get an endorsement from a lawmaker, prompting the House Secretary General to merely “note” the complaint upon receipt of the document.
The complainants, who also include former Reps. Jacinto Paras and Glenn Chong; relatives of the slain Philippine National Police Special Action Force commandos in Mamasapano; the Vanguard of the Philippine Constitution, Inc.; and Tanggulang Demokrasya, Inc., accused Morales of betrayal of public trust and graft and corruption when she allegedly conspired with overall Deputy Ombudsman Melchor Carandang in releasing data on the alleged bank transactions of President Rodrigo Duterte and his family, among others.
The complainants alleged Morales also committed graft and corruption and betrayed public trust when she did not recuse herself from the case of Diño vs. Salceda despite what they said was the fact that “Salceda’s lawyer was Morales’ own brother.”
Morales is also being accused of culpably violating the Constitution and betraying the public trust for her alleged failure to act immediately on the complaints that stem from the deaths of the SAF-44, and of betraying public trust for allegedly resorting to “selective justice” and for “being biased in favor of former President Benigno Aquino on the cases related to the Oplan Exodus and the Disbursement Acceleration Program cases.”
Also cited in the complaint were the cases of former senators Bong Revilla, Jinggoy Estrada, and Juan Ponce Enrile, among others.
