Group accuses Bello of refusing to help OFW, corruption; Bello denies allegations

(Eagle News) — A group has accused Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III of refusing to help an Overseas Filipino Worker and of corruption.

But Bello, in an interview over dzbb, dismissed the allegations of  Alie Dizon, secretary general of Kilusang Pagbabago National Movement for Change, who said he received P1.5 million from a recruitment agency, and refused to help one “Mercy,” who was deployed abroad through that agency but was made to return home following a case filed against the recruitment firm.

According to Bello, the case stems from a report from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency that said that the agency was recruiting minors.

The agency’s accreditation was also cancelled by the Philippine Overseas Employment Agency as a result.

The secretary said that “Mercy” came to his office not to ask him to help her reunite with her supposed baby who was left abroad, but to follow up on the agency’s pending case.

He said the OFW even said she had strong ties with President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Nagfa-follow up ng kaso sa office. Sabi ko, bawal ‘yun. Dapat pabayaan ‘yung kaso na umusad,” Bello said.

He said had he known about the baby, who was left in the care of another person abroad, he would have helped.

Bello also denied receiving any amount from anyone, saying he was willing to undergo a lie detector test.

“Wala akong hinihinging pera,” he said.
