(Eagle News) —  The  government has begun taking steps to ensure the rehabilitation of Marawi and its residents, with President Rodrigo Duterte announcing the city had been liberated from the clutches of the terrorists.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for instance said it has provided Php 942.5 million worth of livelihood assistance to Marawi City evacuees to help them get back on their feet.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez told reporters those who benefited from the aid were the 17,600 internally displaced persons (IDP).

The DTI said it has also given away mobile rice mills, mini-trucks and sewing machines, among others, to those who wished to engage in businesses.

It said some 2,700 benefited from the DTI’s livelihood equipment.

Meanwhile,  Task Force Ranao Col. Romeo Brawner said that they have asked the help of barangay officials  to ensure that only legitimate residents—and not residents pretending to be civilians— will be able to return to the city.

He said for this, an identification system will be put in place for the internally displaced people.
