Gov’t assures OFW’s protection amid new “mega recruitment” system in Saudi

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz reassured overseas Filipino workers based in Saudi Arabia that the Philippine government will guarantee the protection and welfare amid reports of a new mega-recruitment system to be implemented there.

“We will never negotiate anything that would reduce the level of protection of our workers. So we will see to it that whether they are operating under a ‘mega recruitment system’ or under a new system, the level of protection that our workers have will continue to be guaranteed,” she said.

Baldoz however clarified that direct hiring by employers or foreign placement agencies are still possible.

She also said she will deploy a technical team from DOLE to Saudi to learn more about the supposed new systems and negotiate for the implementing protocol on the joint dispute settlement system for Philippine household workers.

“I asked them that they get comprehensive briefing on the operation of the mega recruitment agency,” she added. (with reports from Philippine Information Agency)
