Gordon: No recommendation to file charges vs former Customs chief Lapeña

(Eagle News) — Senator Richard Gordon on Monday, Dec. 3, said no charges would be recommended against former Customs Commissioner Isidro Lapeña in connection with the entry of shabu in the country allegedly via magnetic lifters.

According to Gordon, the blue ribbon committee which he chairs, however, would recommend charges against sacked Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Deputy Director Ismael Fajardo and dismissed Senior Supt. Eduardo Acierto.

“Lack of commitment to the job, that makes the criminal feels that it is easy to get away with it,” Gordon said.

He said he would end the hearings as there was sufficient material to make recommendations.

Lapeña came under fire following what was believed to be the entry of P11-billion worth of shabu into the country in August.

But Lapeña,then-the Customs commissioner, said there was no basis for such claims as the lifters tested negative for illegal drugs.

Lapeña has since been transferred at the helm of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
