(Eagle  News) — Gilas’ Fiba Asia Cup journey came to an end on Wednesday after the South Korean team crushed the white shirts with their impressive three-point shooting and fast-paced game.

The Philippine team lagged at a striking distance from the South Koreans by the end of the first quarter, with the blue shirts already making their shots from practically everywhere.

There was a glimmer of hope in the second quarter though after Terrence Romeo exploded and made an avalanche of threes, earning for himself 22 points by the end of the first half.

But the South Koreans knew just what to do with the former Far Eastern Tamaraw, who was virtually shut down at the start of the third quarter, leaving the Philippine contingent without a go-to man.

Gilas’ disastrous streak continued well into the fourth quarter, with the South Koreans pressing on with an avalanche of threes, and shots from the paint, while shutting down Romeo, who could no longer do as much.

With the defeat, Gilas is relegated to the classifications round for fifth to eighth place.  It will face host country Lebanon on Saturday.

The final score: 86-118.
