Gatchalian: Gov’t decision to suspend fuel excise tax “very timely”

(Eagle News) — Senator Sherwin Gatchalian expressed support for the government’s decision to suspend the second round of excise tax on petroleum products, calling it “very timely.”

“Kahit pa bumaba ang presyo ng petrolyo sa nakaraang mga araw at inaasahan na patuloy pa itong bababa sa susunod na taon, sinusuportahan ko ang suspension ng fuel excise tax to give the people a reprieve from the effects of the high inflation rates we had the past few months,” Gatchalian said in a statement.

According to Gatchalian, “the bottom 30 percent income families” will benefit from the suspension.

He said it will also give “breathing room” to small business owners, allowing some of them to pay off the debt they may own others.

It was Budget Secretary Ben Diokno who announced the suspension of the next round of excise tax, saying President Rodrigo Duterte had approved the recommendation of economic managers.
