Five transport groups seek P2-fare hike in M. Manila, Region 3, Region 4

(Eagle News) — Five transport groups are seeking a P2 increase in fare in Metro Manila and Regions 3 and 4.

The Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations, Liga ng Transport Operator ng Pilipinas, Alliance Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines, and Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila and Suburbs Drivers Association filed their petition for the proposed  P10 fare for the first four kilometers before the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Tuesday.

In seeking for the increase, the groups cited the series of increases in diesel prices implemented by gas companies from August to September, and “reports of another round of increase which, if imposed, will surely affect the income of drivers and operators, which is unbearable to our respective members.”

“The price of diesel last August was P30.05 per liter, and today it increased to P32.65 per liter,” they said.

They noted that these increases were coupled by the approved increase in minimum wage of employees—from P491 to P512 —by the Department of Labor and Employment, and the increase in “operational costs,”  the prices of lubricants and spare parts imported from abroad “due to peso depreciation.”

“Therefore, it is just and necessary to seek relief with the honorable board, and pray for the increase in the minimum fare,” they said.
