SWS: Self-rated poverty and self-rated food poverty down

(Eagle News Service) — The percentages of families who see themselves as poor and food-poor have declined based on a recent Social Weather Stations survey.

The survey conducted  from  June 23 to 26 showed that families self-rated as poor were at 44 percent, six percentage points less than the figure in March, when the pollster conducted the same survey.

Self-rated poverty is lowest in the National Capital Region (28 percent), followed by Balance Luzon (34 percent), and then by Mindanao (57 percent).

Self-rated poverty was highest in the Visayas (64 percent), based on the recent SWS survey.

The percentage of families who see themselves as food-poor is pegged at 32 percent, three percentage points less than the figure in March.

Self-rated food poverty was lowest again in the NCR (16 percent).

The NCR was followed by Balance Luzon (27 percent), and then by Mindanao (41 percent).

Self-rated food poverty was highest in the Visayas (44 percent).

The non-commissioned SWS survey was done via face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide— 300 each from Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Sampling error margins  are pegged at ±3% for national percentages, and ±6% each for Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
