Sandiganbayan fifth division allows Elenita Binay to travel to Israel

(Eagle News) — The fifth division of the Sandiganbayan has allowed Elenita Binay to travel to Israel for a vacation.

This after the division chaired by Associate Justice Rafael Lagos granted Binay’s April 24 motion for authority to travel to Tel Aviv-Yafo from May 15 to May 29.

The wife of former Vice President Jejomar Binay is facing trial for graft and malversation at the third division in connection with the alleged anomalous purchase of beds and sterilizers for the Ospital ng Makati worth P45 million.

She has another pending motion to travel at the anti-graft court’s fourth division.

In granting Binay’s motion to travel, the fifth division noted that she had “faithfully complied” with the conditions set by the court in her previous travels abroad.

The fifth division’s grant of Binay’s motion was, however, subjected to certain conditions.

Among others, Binay’s travel, it said, should only cover that specific period.

The division said her itinerary of travel should also only cover Hong Kong, this as transient point to Israel, and Tel Aviv-Yafo.

The division also noted that the travel bond which she has posted “in connection with her previous travels abroad, and which has not yet been withdrawn, shall continue to guarantee her faithful compliance with the conditions imposed herein.”

“That within five days after her return, the accused shall advise this court of her arrival personally and formally in writing, appending on her compliance a photocopy of her passport upon which the stamp of arrival of the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation is affixed…,” it said.
