Jardeleza is richest SC justice

(Eagle News) — Associate Justice Marvic Leonen is the poorest of all magistrates in the Supreme Court, while his colleague Associate Justice Francis Jardeleza, based on a summary of the Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth of justices released on Friday.

Leonen’s net worth as of December 2016 was pegged at P2,485,211.92, while Jardeleza’s was at P252,165,867.36.

Associate Justice Teresita Leonardo-De Castro follows Leonen, with an  estimated net worth of P17,732,000.

It was De Castro who recently accused Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno of approving, on her own, foreign travel allowances of her staff charged to Supreme Court funds.

In her memorandum sent to the other magistrates, De Castro also said the Chief Justice did not act on the appointments of key positions in the High Court pending before her office, and appointed, along with another justice, Brenda Jay Mendoza as head of the Philippine Mediation Center on their own, when it should have reportedly been a collegial decision of the entire body.

De Castro was closely followed by Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr., with a net worth of P17,753,473; and then by Sereno, with P24,249, 941.14.

Associate Justice Lucas Bersamin was next, with P41,295,828; then Associate Justice Jose Mendoza with P41,493,468.09; and then Associate Justice Diosdado Peralta, with P43,541,831.25.

Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio follows Peralta, with a net worth of P82,638,820.

Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa is next, with a net worth of P121,550,00; followed by Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo, who has a net worth of P138,913,099.68.

The net worth of Jardeleza, the richest justice, was pegged at P252,165, 867.36.
