COMELEC to conduct satellite registration in government hospitals

MANILA – The Commission on Elections is set to conduct satellite registration for qualified women and girls in selected government hospitals nationwide this March in celebration of Women’s Month.

With eight months to go before the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 23, 2017, the Commission’s Gender and Development (GAD) Committee will spearhead the satellite registration activities from March 1 to March 8 to help ensure wider women voter participation.

The Offices of the Election Officers (OEOs) will schedule a one-day satellite registration activity in a government hospital in their locality, where women and girls of voting age who reside in the area will be accommodated.

As a kick-off activity, the OEO of Quezon City District 3 is conducting today, February 22, a special satellite registration for women and girls in the locality from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) in Barangay Marilag.

“One of the guiding principles of the Commission is ‘inclusivity,’ such that all voters qualified to vote shall be given the opportunity to exercise their right to suffrage without discrimination in any form,” said Commissioner Rowena Guanzon, head of the GAD-Focal Point System Executive Committee.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 1066, election officers (EOs) are mandated to intensify satellite registration activities and establish satellite offices for the reception of applications. (COMELEC)
