(Eagle News)–The leaders of Southeast Asian nations reiterated the need to honor “time-honored principles” of “sovereign equality” and “non-interference” in internal affairs in the 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Singapore.
This is according to President Rodrigo Duterte, who spoke upon his arrival in Davao from the summit on Sunday, April 29.
He said during the summit, three “key” documents were also adopted to address terrorism and extremist violence, illegal drug trade, and counter piracy.
He said the need for the protection of migrant workers was also emphasized.
“We pushed the ASEAN Consensus on the protection and the promotion of the rights of the migrant workers and their families,” he said, noting that primers published by the Philippines were distributed.
He said the other countries there were urged to use them.
“We also agreed to promote free and fair trade..,” he added.
The 32nd ASEAN summit took place from April 27 to 28.
The ASEAN is composed of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
