(Eagle News)–President Rodrigo Duterte took offense at allegations he knew something about the killing of Tanauan, Batangas Mayor Antonio Halili.

Unfair sila sa akin (They are are unfair to me),” Duterte said in a speech before the Filipino community in Papua New Guinea, where he is attending the 26th Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting.

According to Duterte, when he says he is going to kill, “pangtakot man lang yan, istorya man lang yan (it is just meant to scare, it is just a story),”

Maniwala ka pala? Sino ang nagpatay? Ang pulis o, tanungin mo. Hindi ako (You immediately believe.  Who killed him?  Ask the police.  Not me),” he said.

On July 2, Halili was shot dead as he was presiding over the town’s flag ceremony.

The President had said his killing may be linked to alleged drug links.

Halili was also known to parade drug suspects in front of town residents.
