Duterte conference with PNP, AFP postponed in light of preps for “Ompong”

(Eagle News) — The monthly meeting of President Rodrigo Duterte with his security officials on Friday, Sept. 14, was canceled in light of preparations for Typhoon “Ompong.”

The meeting with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, where peace and order issues are usually discussed, was slated at 4 p.m.

“Instead the [inter-agency] National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council was convened (on Thursday),” Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said in its latest update that the eye of “Ompong” was still over water.

The typhoon is expected to make landfall over northern Luzon on Saturday, Sept. 15.
