(Eagle News) — President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the promotion of National Capital Region Police Office Chief Guillermo Eleazar as police director.

In his letter to Eduardo Año, officer in charge of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, Duterte said that the approval was based on an endorsement of the chairman of the Civil Service Commission and the National Police Commission, and “in conjunction with” Republic Act 6975, which places the PNP under the DILG.

“By virtue hereof, he may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office…,” he said.

Eleazar was director of the Quezon City Police District and police regional director of Calabarzon prior to being chosen as NCRPO chief by PNP Chief Oscar Albayalde,

He is known to be a disciplinarian who conducts surprise visits in police stations and precincts, and to berate his erring men.
