DOTr: Truck in deadly crash in Laguna an old model, not registered with LTO

(Eagle News)–The truck that plowed into several vehicles and then rammed into place a bakery and a house in Sta. Rosa, Laguna over the weekend, killing at least six people, was not registered with the Land Transportation Office, the Department of Transportation said.

According to the DOTr, the truck, which had been carrying steel bars at that time, was an old model that had been registered as a private vehicle in 2016.

“Hindi ito isang common carrier o truck for hire. Amin ding nililinaw na hindi ni-renew ng LTO ang rehistro nito noong 2017 at 2018,” the DOTr said.

According to the DOTr,  the need to prevent deadly road accidents is one of the reasons the DOTr, the LTO and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board are pushing for the modernization of trucks.

“Nakatutok ang LTO sa imbestigasyon sa insidente upang tiyaking mabibigyan ng hustisya ang mga biktima,” the DOTr said, as it extended its condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.

Police said the driver of the 14-wheeler trailer truck that had come from Tagaytay lost control and hit several vehicles on Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road in Barangay Sto. Domingo on Saturday, Dec. 7.
