DOJ officials, personnel to undergo drug tests

(Eagle News)– Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Monday (September 26) announced on his colleagues that they will undergo random drug tests in order to show their cooperation to the Duterte administration’s campaign on illegal drugs.

“This is part of our efforts to support the President’s war on drugs. We cannot clean the houses of our countrymen, if our own house is not clean and not in order,” Aguirre said during his speech at the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) 119th anniversary celebration.
“We cannot prosecute if we ourselves are tainted by the very drugs we seek to eradicate. Only by clean hands and souls can we rightfully prosecute others,” the justice secretary added.
Earlier, Aguirre remarked that the administration’s war on illegal drugs was a success.
Over 700,000 drug users and pushers have already surrendered to the authorities.
Last weekend, Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay appealed at the UN General Assembly in New York not to intrude with the anti-narcotic war launched by President Rodrigo Duterte.
