The number of crimes involving taxi drivers in the country is increasing, with the latest being a woman who was shot four times after the driver took her belongings. Miracurously, the woman survived and was able to recover her bag, laptop, cellphone and money.
Even traffic enforcer Isaac Mariano of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority was victimized, his motorcycle and radio taken.
In answer to this, the LTFRB plans to implement a new ID system. The new identification card will contain important information like the name of the taxi driver and the name of the taxi company as well as the name of the taxi operator.
The new ID system will ensure that taxi drivers would be easily identified and will serve as a deterrent against those who have criminal intent. The ID should be placed in a location that is easily viewed by the passenger and is guaranteed tamper-proof.
