(Eagle News) — The Department of Foreign Affairs has expressed condolences to the family of Jastine Valdez, the 24-year-old Filipino student who was abducted and whose body was recently found in an old mine in Kilternan, south of Dublin, in Ireland.

“We grieve with the loved ones of Jastine Valdez, someone so young and so full of promise, who was suddenly taken away from them. We join the rest of the Filipino Community in Ireland in offering our prayers for Jastine and her family,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said.

According to Cayetano,  the Philippine Embassy in London and the Honorary Consulate have been in touch with authorities since Valdez’s family reported her missing on Saturday, May 19.

The DFA said according to Ambassador to London Antonio Lagdameo, Honorary Consul Mark Congdon  was coordinating for any assistance the agency could extend.

The body of Valdez, an accountancy student, was found three days after she was supposedly abducted by construction worker Mark Hennessy while she was walking to her home in Enniskerry.

Hennessy, who was tracked down in a police operation, was killed.

Authorities have yet to determine a motive for Valdez’s killing.
