Despite new 10-year passport validity, online appointment for passport application and renewal to remain

QUEZON City, Philippines (Eagle News) — Despite the implementation of a new 10-year passport validity by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the online passport appointment and renewal system will still remain.

This was according to DFA Assistant Secretary to Consular Affairs Frank Cimafranca.

Cimafranca also said that the passport courtesy lane will remain for the government employees, their immediate families as well as for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and minors.

Last month, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act (RA) No.10928 amending Section 10 of RA 8239 or the Philippine Passport Act of 1996. This extends the validity of Philippine passports from five years to 10 years.

This provision, however, does not apply to minors or those under 18 years old, who will only be issued a passport valid for five years.
