Death toll in Manila Pavilion fire climbs to six

(Eagle News)–The number of fatalities in the Manila Pavilion fire incident has risen to six.

According to the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., Jennilyn Figueroa, 28, died in the early morning of March 21 after being in a critical state for three days.

Figueroa, PAGCOR said, worked as a member of the internal  security staff at the Casino Filipino Pavilion.

She has been in service for six years.

The other five fatalities were identified as  Treasury Officer Edilberto Evangelista, Assistant Treasury Officer Marilyn Omadto, Security Guard Billy Rey De Castro, closed-circuit television camera operators John Mark Sabido  and Jocris Banang.

“PAGCOR is deeply saddened by the unfortunate fate of its six employees. It will continue to extend support to the bereaved families,” PAGCOR said.

The fire struck the hotel on Sunday, and was put out only a day after.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation to look into the possible liability of the hotel management and fire authorities who responded in the incident.
