Davao court orders Trillanes’ arrest for libel

(Eagle News) — A Davao court has ordered the arrest of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for libel.

The arrest warrant issued by Judge Melinda Alconcel-Dayanghirang of the Davao City Regional Trial Court Branch 54 stems from the libel charges filed by former Davao Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte against the senator.

The presidential son filed several libel complaints against Trillanes after the senator accused him of being a member of an international crime syndicate, of the Davao group which is allegedly behind the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that slipped into the country, and of corruption and extortion allegedly involving transport network vehicle service Uber and other companies regulated by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Road Board and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

It was unclear which libel complaint prompted Alconcel-Dayanghirang to issue the arrest order against Trillanes.

Alconcel-Dayanghirang set bail for Trillanes at P24,000.

Trillanes, who faces separate sedition and coup d’etat charges, among others, is out on bail.
