(Eagle News) — Daraga, Albay Mayor Carlwyn Baldo was arrested by authorities on Tuesday, Jan. 22, for alleged illegal possession of firearms.
Baldo, who was tagged by the police as the mastermind in the killing of Rep. Rodel Batocabe in December last year, was arrested after authorities said they recovered two caliber .45 pistols, a magazine for an Uzi loaded with 7 live ammunition, eight live ammunition for a cal. 45 pistol, and live ammunition for an M16 from his house in Barangay Tagay.
According to the police, they also confiscated the mayor’s Isuzu Alterra.
Apart from Baldo, six suspects in the killing of Batocabe are in police custody.
The police had said the killing was politically motivated, as Batocabe had announced plans to run for Daraga mayor in the midterm elections.
Baldo is seeking reelection.
