Customs Chief Faeldon a no-show in Senate committee hearing on P6.4-B drug shipment

(Eagle News) — Customs Chief Nicanor Faeldon was a no-show in Wednesday’s  Senate blue ribbon committee hearing on the P6.4-billion drug shipment that entered the country, saying he was confined in the hospital due to hypertension.

In a letter addressed to Senator Richard Gordon, Senate blue ribbon committee chair, Faeldon said that he had been diagnosed with “non ST elevation myocardial infection acute coronary syndrome; hypertension urgency hypertension stage II” and was confined at the Manila East Medical Center “until yesterday (Aug. 8).”

He said the diagnosis was made after he “urgently” consulted with his doctor, to whom he went after “feeling some discomfort in (his) chest area).”

He said he started feeling that way after he was advised on Monday by his dentist that he needed “further treatment for (his) interior teeth.”

“In view of the foregoing, I am humbly imploring this honorable committee to excuse my absence in today’s hearing,” he said.

He also appointed Atty. Edward James Dy Buco, deputy commissioner of the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group, to be his representative.

This is the second time Faeldon skipped a hearing on the P6.4-billion drug shipment.

On Monday, Faeldon was also a no-show in the House of Representatives’ committee on dangerous drugs hearing.

The Customs chief had said he had a “dental emergency.”
