(Eagle News) — Commissioner Christian Robert Lim has been named the acting chief of the Commission on Elections.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said this was after Lim, the most senior commissioner, garnered a “unanimous vote” from commissioners who voted for their temporary head during the poll body’s weekly session.

Lim’s designation comes after the Palace announced President Rodrigo Duterte had accepted Comelec Chair Andres Bautista’s resignation “effective immediately.”

In his resignation letter, Bautista had requested that he be allowed to step down by December 31 of this year.

The House justice committee also terminated impeachment proceedings against Bautista following the Palace’s announcement.

The impeachment complaint stemmed from Bautista’s alleged ill-gotten wealth, and the leak of the personal details of voters in 2016, among others.
