Chinese fugitive nabbed in PHL

(Eagle News) — A Chinese national wanted for alleged economic crimes and corruption in China has been arrested by authorities.

In a statement, the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission said it and the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit, in coordination with Chinese authorities, nabbed Xie Haojie.

His arrest came after the PACC’s counterparts from China asked for the Philippines’ help in apprehending Xie, who is accused of “economic crimes and corruption” amounting to P11 billion, in December.

“This is a warning to all foreign fugitives hiding in the Philippines. The law will catch up with you, including coddlers in various agencies very soon,” PACC chief Dante Jimenez said.

PACC Executive Director Eduardo Bringas, for his part, said the arrest of the suspect was a “positive development.”

“The mutual cooperation with the Chinese government will further allow the Commission better and faster access to information involving such officials,” Bringas added.
