(Eagle News) — One person, and not two as earlier reported by authorities, was killed and four others were injured after a cement mixer fell on its side and crushed a car in Quezon City on Tuesday.

Celine Pialago, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority spokesperson, said the incident in front of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology on Mindanao Ave. took place past 4 p.m.

The complete name of the fatality who was the driver of the car, with plate number AOA 3301, was not available so far, but Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s Road Emergency Group chief Edward Gonzales said his surname was Ramos.

Gonzales said the left side of the car where the driver’s seat was was immediately crushed by the cement mixer that had gone straight to the center-island and had tilted on its right side.

According to Gonzales, the cement mixer may have tried to overtake the car using the inner lane, but because there was not much space, its left tires went up the center-island, prompting the entire vehicle to tilt on its right side.

Gonzales said the four other car passengers survived, with only minor injuries.

He said the driver of the cement mixer surrendered to authorities.

He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
