Aquino, Garin face charges over Dengvaxia mess

(Eagle News) — Charges have been filed against former President Benigno Aquino III and his Health Secretary Janette Garin over the Dengvaxia mess.

Former Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Augusto Syjuco filed the mass murder and plunder charges against the former high-ranking officials before the Ombudsman on Thursday.

The filing comes a day after Aquino said in a Senate panel inquiry that he understood Dengvaxia to have undergone all the necessary processes when the procurement was ordered during his time.

He added at that time, dengue was a problem in the country as early as 2010.

Garin has also said she only acted in the interest of Filipinos when the vaccination program was implemented.

Sanofi, the Dengvaxia manufacturer, has admitted that “serious cases” could occur in those who were administered the vaccine but who have not had dengue.
