48 House members call for resignation of PCSO’s Sandra Cam

Seek to initiate contempt proceedings vs her

(Eagle News) — Forty-eight congressmen are calling for the resignation of Sandra Cam as board member of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Through Resolution No. 1777 introduced by Rep. Arnolfo Teves Jr., Rep. Danilo Suarez, and Rep. Robert Barbers, the lawmakers also sought to initiate contempt proceedings against her.

The move, the lawmakers said, stems from Cam’s “contemptuous and threatening remarks” against Teves, whom she accused of being involved in the operations of Small-Town Lottery.

The remarks, the lawmakers said, were hurled by Cam in an interview with the media after a Feb. 28 hearing by the House committee on games and amusements on the alleged failure of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to generate its projected income, and during the hearing itself.

The lawmakers said this was not the first time Cam did this to a member of the House, noting that she “verbally abused” House Minority Leader Danilo Suarez in a separate committee hearing.

“Whereas such unruly behavior of (Cam) is a direct affront to the institution,” they said.

“Whereas any and all invited guests and resource persons in any committee hearing should at all times accord all members of the House due respect by reason of their positions as duly elected public officers, accord due respect to the House of Representatives as an institution, observe proper decorum, and refrain from exhibiting from any unethical and/or contemptuous and arrogant behavior  under pain of penalty,” the lawmakers added.
