(Eagle News) — John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes of Canada defeated Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien of Norway 8-4 in Sunday’s Semifinal match advancing them to the event’s first ever Gold Medal Match.

It seemed to be a close match at first with Norway equalizing in the 3rd end. Canada then took the lead scoring one in the 4th end and stealing two in the 5th end. Norway showed some hope scoring two points in the 6th end and only trailing by one. Lawes of Canada took advantage of the hammer shot by knocking out Norway’s stone out of the house and scoring 3 in the 7th end to take the lead 8-4. This would eventually be the final score of the match as Norway was mathematically unable to catch up after Canada’s 4th stone during the 8th and last end.

The difference in the match was Morris of Canada limiting the scoring for Norway by having an 88% take out percentage for the match.

Canada awaits the winner of Switzerland and OAR as they will play their semifinal on Monday night. Switzerland edged out OAR in Round Robin winning by a score of 9-8. Canada defeated both Switzerland and OAR by big margins in Round Robin play. The stakes will be much higher during the Gold Medal Match, which will take place on Tuesday evening. Team Curling Round Robin play will begin Wednesday.
