20 suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits surrender in Basilan

(Eagle News)– Twenty suspected Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members under sub-leader Katatong Balaman a.k.a. “Tatong” surrendered on Thursday (September 22), the Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command said.

Aside from the alleged bandits, the Sumisip-based bandits also surrendered their high-powered and locally made firearms.

“This is the result of the relentless operation we are conducting where they suffered lots of casualties. These Abu Sayyafs now fear for their lives, leading to the surrender,” Westmincom quoted Army 1st Infantry Division Commander Col. Thomas Donato Jr in a statement.
“We are very open for [surrenderers]. We want to end this war in peace and pave the way for development in Basilan,” Donato addded.
Tatong’s group is believed to be the main suspect behind several ambush and clashes against government troops in Barangays Sukaten and Baiwas.
Sumisip Mayor Gulam Boy Hattaman is expecting more ASG members will yield to make Basilan peaceful.
The Army also reported their successful operation against ASG strongholds in Barangay Baguindan in Tipo-tipo, Basilan.
